Report Cards

Image result for report card clipart
Hello Everyone!!
We noticed that a few parents had questions about asterisks put on the Report Cards. The district gives us alerts when posting grades for the students. This year there was a change for the District's online system and we were told to put a mark in every box even if it was for something that was not assessed this quarter.
Therefore you all should have noticed that boxes for Recognizes Basic Shapes, Demonstrates Problem Solving Skills and Understands Basic Addition/Subtraction have asterisks. This did not mean that they have difficulties in these areas~ we haven't assessed them, so we don't know if they do or not. With that being said however... areas with an N need your attention. These were areas that your child needs improvement in. So please make sure to practice these areas at home.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email both of us or request a conference to discuss the issues in person.

Kids Heart Challenge

Today we had an Assembly for the Kids Heart Challenge. The students learned all about things to do to keep their heart healthy. Exercise, exercise, exercise!:) We also heard a story about a 8year old girl Alexa who had open heart surgery. It was a sweet heart felt story and Alexa is doing great thanks to help from the American Heart Association. :)

We are hoping that everyone from our class supports Alexa and other children like her by donating to the Kids Heart Health Challenge. We have until November 26 to make donations. :)
The donations can be made online or they can be submitted in the envelope your child brings home today.  The event takes place on NOVEMBER 26.
OOOOOH All students that go on and register tonight at heart.org/KidsHeartChallenge receive a wristband and then they can earn attachable characters to put on it. :)  Also, be sure to check out the last photo of this post to see other prizes your child can earn from donations.

Here are pictures of the flyers front, insides and the back.

Red Ribbon Week Day 1

Red Ribbon Week is off to a great start!! Check out all the students that came to school wearing red. :)  We can't wait to see all the silly socks tomorrow!!!
**If your child is missing from the photo and they wore red today; it means one of two things= they decided not to be in the photo or they were in the office getting their flu shot with Ms. Bellot. **

Who is ready for Red Ribbon Week Activities?!?! We are!! We hope to have lots of participation, so we have lots of pictures on the blog.  If you need a reminder of each day's activities~ check the blog post we made about the week. :)
Monday is Flu Shot Day. Only the students who turned in the paper will receive flu shots. Along with that, if your child refuses to have the shot done- the nurses will not force it upon them. (Every year there are a few students who get scared and refuse. ) Tuesday we have a Kids Heart Health Assembly to PUMP US UP for Friday's Fun Run! ooh make sure to get all the last minute donations in. Our Fun Run will be from 12:00-12:45~ come out and cheer on the students!! Wednesday is an Early Release Day. Thursday is Halloween. :) We will not be having a party, however if anyone wants to send in candy treats or toys for the students~ we will gladly pass them out to the students through out the day. And finally, our Fun Friday's Activity is Team Spirit Day and Michael is bringing in snack for the whole class.

READING
Again this week we will focus on Stellaluna. If you need to see the Youtube video- go to last week's Academic Post and view it. We will be taking a test on the story Friday.
With that being said~ Thursday we will take a break and read the Halloween Sight Word Reader~ Frankenstein's Birthday. Plus we will read the book about the Little Old Lady. Be ready for your child to come home acting it out. It's adorable!! :)

SKILLS
We are in full swing with beginning sounds and rhyming!! The students are getting better, but they still need practice at home. Here are some Youtube videos to use for practicing. (Miguel the Magic Monkey takes away the beginning sounds. This allows students to have some practice and do better at our Beginning Sound Stamp Center.)
First and Last names will be stressed a lot this week. Make sure that only the first letter is uppercase and the rest are lowercase~ this can lower a students grade and it's a very simple task!
Our Sight Words for the week are: five, on, get & so.

WRITING
We're working hard at chopping up words to write in our sentences and making sure our sight words are spelled correctly. (Only sight words that have been posted in our Sight Word Slideshows are expected to be spelled correctly. Any other sight words that are spelled correctly are just a bonus!)

MATH
Last week we introduced solid and flat shapes. This week we will learn about hexagons, continue exploring flat shapes around us in our environment, compare flat shapes and solid shapes. We will also learn how to compose larger shapes from smaller shapes. We will also be discussing positional words before wrapping up our unit. We've started to use different texts in math to help us learn more about topics. Below is one of the books we will be using this week and a catchy hexagon song to help students remember all the qualities of a hexagon.

SCIENCE
We don't plan on having time for science. We plan on using the time to continue doing journal work , which gives our students practice in various skills in reading, writing, math, and independence!

Fire Fighters Visit CLE

Yesterday Fire Fighters from Station 61 came to CLE. This was a surprise visit for Kindergarten Only!! And it made our students feel SOOOO SPECIAL!!!
ooh For those of you that have never heard of this station, no worries!! We hadn't heard of it either and we asked. They will be at the new Fire Station on Old Middleburg Road next to the Jacksonville Public Library. They said the Station should be completed in March. :)

Anyway, the Fire Fighters did a great job informing the students of what all their tools do to help people. Along with explain that their uniforms are not to scare people, but rather keep the Fire Fighters safe from harm. Then one of them put on his Oxygen Tank and spoke to the students so that they would know what a Fire Fighter sounds like and not be scared if they ever heard them in a house fire.

Finally the discussion ended with the Fire Fighters both stressing that everyone needs to have a Fire Escape Plan for their house and for it to have a Primary Route and an Alternate Route written down.
They mentioned drawing your house layout on a grid paper like the one below.

Enjoy all the pictures!!
