Who is ready for Red Ribbon Week Activities?!?! We are!! We hope to have lots of participation, so we have lots of pictures on the blog.  If you need a reminder of each day's activities~ check the blog post we made about the week. :)
Monday is Flu Shot Day. Only the students who turned in the paper will receive flu shots. Along with that, if your child refuses to have the shot done- the nurses will not force it upon them. (Every year there are a few students who get scared and refuse. ) Tuesday we have a Kids Heart Health Assembly to PUMP US UP for Friday's Fun Run! ooh make sure to get all the last minute donations in. Our Fun Run will be from 12:00-12:45~ come out and cheer on the students!! Wednesday is an Early Release Day. Thursday is Halloween. :) We will not be having a party, however if anyone wants to send in candy treats or toys for the students~ we will gladly pass them out to the students through out the day. And finally, our Fun Friday's Activity is Team Spirit Day and Michael is bringing in snack for the whole class.

READING
Again this week we will focus on Stellaluna. If you need to see the Youtube video- go to last week's Academic Post and view it. We will be taking a test on the story Friday.
With that being said~ Thursday we will take a break and read the Halloween Sight Word Reader~ Frankenstein's Birthday. Plus we will read the book about the Little Old Lady. Be ready for your child to come home acting it out. It's adorable!! :)

SKILLS
We are in full swing with beginning sounds and rhyming!! The students are getting better, but they still need practice at home. Here are some Youtube videos to use for practicing. (Miguel the Magic Monkey takes away the beginning sounds. This allows students to have some practice and do better at our Beginning Sound Stamp Center.)
First and Last names will be stressed a lot this week. Make sure that only the first letter is uppercase and the rest are lowercase~ this can lower a students grade and it's a very simple task!
Our Sight Words for the week are: five, on, get & so.

WRITING
We're working hard at chopping up words to write in our sentences and making sure our sight words are spelled correctly. (Only sight words that have been posted in our Sight Word Slideshows are expected to be spelled correctly. Any other sight words that are spelled correctly are just a bonus!)

MATH
Last week we introduced solid and flat shapes. This week we will learn about hexagons, continue exploring flat shapes around us in our environment, compare flat shapes and solid shapes. We will also learn how to compose larger shapes from smaller shapes. We will also be discussing positional words before wrapping up our unit. We've started to use different texts in math to help us learn more about topics. Below is one of the books we will be using this week and a catchy hexagon song to help students remember all the qualities of a hexagon.

SCIENCE
We don't plan on having time for science. We plan on using the time to continue doing journal work , which gives our students practice in various skills in reading, writing, math, and independence!
