It may only be a four day week, but we've got lots of work to do. :) No School Monday, President's Day. Tuesday we have a visit from Ms.Barbara at 9:00. She is a Dental Hygienist at the Offices of Weaver and Strattan. :) We have an Early Release Day on Wednesday and a Resource on Tues, Wed & Fri!
Our Fun Friday Activity is Stuffed Animal Day and Zoe is bringing in Fun Friday Snack. :)
MATH
We are continuing this week with counting on from 10 to create teen numbers. Students will be able to show different ways to create teen numbers using ten frames, the rekenerek, fingers, pictures, and more. We will be focusing on understanding that a teen number is 10 and another number. This will help with the number recognition, number writing, counting strategies, and fluency. As a continued fluency activity students will practice putting two numbers together to make 5, 6, and 7.
WRITING
For the next few weeks we will combine Writing with Reading. This will allow us more time to work in our Journals and write sentences about the Animal Facts we are learning.
Our Focus is on Lion's this week. Check out the Youtube video and get your child excited!!
**Remember to check the Detailed Progress Report and see what is expected of your child in Writing.**
SAXON/ READING SKILLS
Saxon is focused on letter Vv and coding this week. Make sure to review the rules of coding with your child: "A vowel followed by a consonant get a breve and the vowel make the short sound." "When there is a double consonant, the second one gets a slash." "A blend is~ two letters that come together to make one sound. We either color them or put a rectangle around them."
We are continuing to practice rhyming pairs with our Word Families. Make sure to be practice so that your child is ready for the Test. Also, practice writing all the uppercase letters in order... we do this test in the hallway and students are expected to do it without looking at an Alphabet Line.
Our Sight Words for the week are: as, may, his & from. Our Blend is SP- and our Word Family is the -ing Family.
READING
We are continuing our focus on Animals. This week it is Lions! We will discuss what lions HAVE on their bodies. Ways that lion CAN move and other things they CAN do. And finally what they ARE; examples that instantly come to mind when I think of lions is ~ They are cats. They are hunters. etc.
We will be reading different Non-Fiction Books from Epic Books. But I was able to find this short Non-Fiction Reader video to post on the blog. Make sure to ask your child what we discuss in class so that they are ready for the Test on Friday. :)
