Cheetahs go to the Movies!!

Today the students brought home a flyer about Movie Time! The is a fundraiser to support our CLE Safety Patrols. :) The movie they will be viewing is Noelle and a preview can be found at the end of this post. 

This event is a lot of fun for the students!! The $3.00 admission gets their entrance into the movie and a bag of popcorn. Then if your child is hungry or you're feeling extra generous~ they have drinks and candy for sale. :) The prices for these extra items range from $.50-$1.00.

Even better is knowing that your child will be able to enjoy the movie with a blanket, pillow and their Stuffed Animal from Stuffed Animal Day!! (We've already gotten it approved from the Safety Patrol Sponsors.) The event is from 3:30-6:00. All monies need to br brought to school on Friday with the paper filled out. Any students who do not have a paper, even if they have the money, will not be able to attend the event.

Ms. Bellot and I will not be attending the event, however I did volunteer my services for Dismissal after the Movie. Also, all Kindergarteners attending the event will be housed together with a Kindergarten Teacher and they will all be brought over the Multi-Purpose Room together at 3:30.

Week of November 12

***This week we are busy testing for Progress Reports. Progress Reports for Second Quarter are expected to go home on November 18. We will do our best to get all the testing done and have our Detailed Progress Reports filled out so you know the specifics for your child's grade. ***

FUN FRIDAY SNACKS~ We are in need of parents to sign up for Fun Friday Snacks. Please let us know if you are available to send in snacks for our 41 students. :) Email BOTH of us and we'll email you back with the next available date if no particular date is requested. :)

This week our Resources are ART, then a split P.E. and MUSIC. Wednesday is an Early Release Day and the last day to pay for our Field Trip to the Amazing Grace Crop Maze. Then on Friday our fun activity is Stuffed Animal Day. (Please make sure the stuffed animal fits into your child's backpack with it zipped up. The stuffed animals are only taken out inside our classroom and during Recess.)

READING SKILLS

Our rhyming is coming along nicely!! Please use the -ad Family to practice hearing the same ending sounds of the words. Also, we are practicing hunting for Sight Words in dum dum reading challenge books. (If they are not highlighted- please do it with them.) We are noting test sight words at Progress Report Time, but we practice them a ton so the students do well when the time comes.

READING
We will be reading the book I Don't Want to be a Frog  and various other books, to use to compare to our story last week. We will be discussing the similarities and differences of the frogs in our Fiction and Non-Fiction stories. The comparisons will include looks, actions, settings, etc.
We will also use a poem to discuss the lifecycle of a frog.


WRITING
We are going to be a taking a writing grade this week. The students drawings will not be part of the Writing Grade. The grade focuses on writing fundamentals that we have been teaching in class. So please make sure your child knows what is expected in a sentence.

MATH
We will be testing recognizing numbers 0-10, counting sets to 0, writing numbers 0-10, and identifying 2D and 3D shapes this week. We will continue to work on our Measurement unit. We've already started using math vocabulary words to talk about measurement including bigger, smaller, medium-sized, longer, shorter. Please continue practicing these words and all the skills that we'll be testing on with your child. SCIENCE
Due to Wednesday's Early Release schedule and our testing throughout the week, we do not plan on having time for science.

Ms. Finocchiaro's Baby Shower

On Thursday we will be celebrating Ms. Finocchiaro and baby Francesca Jade. (Or as we like to call her~ Frankie :) Our celebration will begin at 1:00 and last about an hour with light refreshments. Any parents that are Approved Duval Volunteers and want to come in and celebrate with us- please do! 

Finally gifts are not expected, but if you would like to buy Ms. Finocchiaro and Frankie a gift, she's registered at Target and Amazon. 

Scholastic Book Fair

Today our class visited the Book Fair and they LOVED it!! Some of the students had money and shopped, while the others just browsed... but everybody agreed they wanted to return. :) We wanted to say thank you to the parents and volunteers that came out~ our Book Fair time was a success because of all of you!!!

Also we wanted you all to know that tomorrow, November 7 is Family Night from 4-6:30. If you can come out and support the school. Please do!!

Week of November 4

Is anyone else shocked that it's already November?!? We can't believe it and soon it'll be Progress Report Time... the school year is flying by with our Smarties!

This week we have a few reminders: Monday is Spirit Night at McDonald's from 4-7, Wednesday our class visits the Book Fair from 9-9:30 (Come in and help your child shop- must be an Approved School Board Volunteer).Friday is the last day of the Book Fair and Spirit Wear Sale. 

Then we don't want anyone to forget... Monday, November 11 there is No School. :) 

Friday our Activity is 80's Day!! We are hoping to see lots of neon clothes and side pony tails with scrunchies. Edward will be bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the class. 

SKILLS

We are honing in on beginning sounds of words and rhyming pairs. We are using the -ay video to practice real -ay rhyming words. Also, my hope is to start testing the students on both skills this week. We're reviewing the following letter sounds and making sure the students don't add the "uhhhh": B, D, M, P, W and Z.

Our Sight Words for the week are: have, make, be, up.

READING

We are focusing on the story The Red Eyed Tree Frog. We will be discussing the vocabulary, charting facts that we learn from the story and then completing a story map. :) 

WRITING

Our Writing will continue to focus on the set up of a sentence. Along with using our Word Wall to find the correct spelling of Sight Words that have been taught in class.

MATH

Last week we got a little bit behind schedule so we will be finishing up our Shapes unit early this week. We'll start a new unit on Measurement later this week. We will learning about length and how to measure items. We continue to practice counting everyday, and we hope you and your child are practicing at home too! Below you'll find a video that we'll be using to practice our counting to 100.

SCIENCE
This week in science we will be learning about physical properties including size, weight, pattern, shape, shine, texture, and color.

Fun Run 11/1

We wanted to thank all our students and families that participated in the Fun Run on Friday! The students had so much fun, and we're happy some parents were able to come out and support as well. Below are a few pictures of our runners in action, and of those that decided they needed a little break in between their laps.

Character Dress Up Day Parade

We had so much fun today at our Character Dress up Day Parade! Students that dressed up as a character from a book participated in our all-school parade. We were happy to see some parent faces in the audience as we walked through the school! In case you missed us, we took A LOT of photos! We even took a picture of our friends that cheered us on in the audience! Our math and reading work was centered around a story named Frankie's Party. We used our math skills to decorate our neck ties for Frankie and read his story during reading.
