More Book It information

So I just finished setting up our class. I entered in the email address for all the students that we received. Make sure to check your email account and respond to the Book It email. 

I'm not sure how much control we will have over the new program. With more reading, it sounds like all correspondence will be through email to you.

So please make sure to check back and log your child's reading time often. We really want everyone to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. 

Pizza Hut Book It Program

Soon we will be participating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program!!

You won't have to do anything extra to participate. Just continue reading books with your child and writing the titles down on our Book Logs. (located on the back of your child's blue Daily Communication Folder.) When the Book Log is turned in, we will reward your child with a Treasure Box toy and email you a personal pan pizza award for your child. 

This is the first year that Pizza Hut will be emailing you the Award Certificates. So we will be using the emails that were written on the Student Information Sheets. :) 

OPEN HOUSE

We noticed this morning driving into school that Open House for K-2nd will be on September 9. So please mark your calendar's. During Open House we go over Academic Curriculum, Expectations/ Standards for the First Quarter, along with the Kindergarten Grading Scale. 

Week of August 19

This week we have Art on Monday. Please make sure your child does not wear brand new clothes, we would hate for them to get ruined during the Art Activity. 

Every Friday we look for parents to sign up for Fun Friday Snacks (last week was Mariah and Mrs. Eads. :) This week is Kenza and Mrs. Lovett.) We also have a dress up activity. This Friday we are having Sports/Team shirts. 

**Mark Your Calendar: Early Release Day is August 28. There is no school on September 2. We do not have an actual date for Open House, but as soon as we do we will post it on the blog. 

As for our Academics. you'll notice we are only brushing on them because we are still making sure that the students know our rules and our routines. It is very important for us to get the rules and routines down now, so that we have minimal interruptions during our lessons.

READING SKILLS

We will brush on all color words and alphabet songs. We will begin name writing practice, so be sure to be practicing at home. ~ Only the first letter of their names is uppercase and the rest are lowercase.

ELA

We will be reading books about kindness, respect and friends. We will discuss the characters in the stories and what they do to show each other kindness. 

In writing we will draw detailed pictures of ourselves. We focus on facial details (hair, eyebrows, eyes, nose, ears and a mouth.) We stress the importance of a neck ("It holds your head up or it will fall like mashed potatoes!") We discuss the upper torso with muscle arms (we do not allow stick arms), along with hanging fingers (We do not like firework fingers or fists.) After that we add pants/shorts/skirt and if necessary muscle legs. (Just like we don't want stick arms, we do not want stick legs.) Finally we end with the shoes or with feet.

**Drawing is a tricky concept and it is a huge developmental one. You'll notice your child is going to take time and practice to draw a detailed person. PLEASE do not expect it to happen after one attempt.**

MATH

We will be listening to counting songs and focusing on numbers 0-5. We will also practice writing numbers on white boards. 

SCIENCE

WE will discuss the Five Senses listening to Mr.R's Five Senses Songs. :) Practice having your child match their sense to their body part. 

Daily Class Schedule

This will be the Daily Schedule for all Kindergarten Classrooms. Although the teachers may do different lessons and share different Youtube Videos~ we will all be teaching our subjects at the same time.

Please note the times when scheduling dentist/ doctor appointments, so that you know what subjects your child will be missing.

 

Supply Bags

We finished sorting all the supplies today and we notice we have a lot of reusable bags left in the classroom. We tried asking the students if they we're their bags from home... however we received a ton of blank stares. 

If one of the bags belongs to you, please email both of us and we will try to send it home in your child's backpack tomorrow. If one of the bags belongs to you and you don't want it returned, please email us back and let us know. :) In case you forgot our emails: finocchiaj@duvalschools.org & crofth1@duvalschools.org

Here are the bags that we have at school. We're very sorry about the pictures orientations not matching. We attempted to correct it and it defaulted to this every time.

Today we did a lot of safety practicing!! The students did a really good job trying to stay quiet and listen to all the rules. (There were a lot!) Please ask  your child about the rules for each, we will be practicing more this week.

There are other rules to both, however for the safety of the students we are choosing not to type all of them on the blog post.  However one MAIN statement we made about both... "It doesn't matter what you're doing in class, line up when you hear the alarm sound or the command given."
