i-Ready Usage for the Week of Nov. 25-29

Image result for iReady Work Clipart
Due to district testing happening in the upper grades at our school, we do not have access to our laptops this week so we will not be able to log students on to i-Ready like we normally do. Please be sure to log your child on so that they may get usage time in both reading and math. We recommend a minimum of 45 minutes in each subject. Thank you for your support!

Field Trip Pictures

The Field Trip to Amazing Grace was GREAT!!! The students were all in agreement that it was the best day ever. :)
We were having so much, we didn't get to take a lot of photos. But here is a quick sample of the students from the different Attractions. :)
Also, in case we didn't get a change to say it~ THANK YOU CHAPERONES!!! You all helped make the day go smoothly and we really appreciate it.  We hope you all are able to make it to our Zoo Field Trip on February 13!! :)
**We plan on splitting students into small groups with Chaperones on the Zoo Field Trip. However, if  younger siblings show up with parents~ you are not a Chaperone, you are a Volunteer and we are not able to assign a group to a Volunteer. We thank everyone for understanding this.**

Week of November 25

Just two more days until Thanksgiving Break!! We are so grateful for each and everyone of our students, as well as parents for trusting us with your children and supporting us constantly. We hope you enjoy this break and get ready for all our fun events happening in December (calendar coming soon).

We have Music and Art this week. On Tuesday 11/26, Chimney Lakes is having the Kids Heart Challenge event! If you haven't donated yet to support 8 year old Alexa who had open heart surgery, donations can be made until Tuesday 11/26 at heart.org/KidsHeartChallenge

We expect many students to be absent and we don't want anyone to miss our lessons, so we have decided to just review all of our skills in each subject. If you know your child is going to be absent, review all of the Second Quarter Standards so that they are ready for report card testing. :)

Spirit Wear shirts and hoodies

On Monday, November 25 we will be sending home the Spirit Wear that was ordered. If you ordered a clothing item for your child, remind them to take it home. We will have them inside their cubbies before they enter the classroom. :)
The clothing items are in plastic bags and they are numbered with your child's number from our classroom.

We need Baby Wipes!!

The time has come when we are down to our last two packages of Baby Wipes. Our students do a great job cleaning up their breakfast area and cleaning their hands after eating snack... and our supply has dwindled.
If you are able to send in a package, or two or even three~ please do.

Thanks in advance!!

Week of November 18

Image result for Crop Maze Clipart
We finished the testing for students that were present all week. Unfortunately due to some absences, not all students have testing completed. Also- we are still filling out the Detailed Progress Report Sheets, so we may wait and send them home on Tuesday. (So if you don't receive it on Monday- you know we didn't get them all filled out and copied.)

We have Resources and our FIELD TRIP on FRIDAY!!! We are all so excited! We have split classes for Spanish and Media. Then on Thursday we have another split class for Music and P.E. On Wednesday we have the Science Family Night happening in the Cafeteria/Multi Purpose Room. They will be showcasing all the Science Fair Projects that the upper grade students completed. It begins at 6:00p.m.

READING SKILLS
The students did a good job noticing beginning sounds of words, however rhyming was difficult for many. So you'll want to focus more on rhyming and CVC words. CVC words are words that are spelled with a consonant, vowel, consonant. For example hat, pig, cop, etc.
Also name writing has improved for many, but we still want everyone to practice. We do not want names being written with all uppercase letters. This is a huge NO-NO!!
Our Sight Words for the week are because, he, she & at.

READING
We are working on Main Idea and Key Details. We will be reading simple non-fiction text that will take us through the steps on figuring out what the details are. The simple texts are: The Zoo, The Lion, In the Hallway & I Can Calm Down.
( I will attempt to put the stories on line later this week.)

WRITING
After compiling the data for the students Writing Test I realized a few things... most know that sentences begin with uppercase letters. However sight words and sound usage isn't really happening. So we ask that you begin writing sentences at home with your child and really practice writing the sight words we've learned in class correctly. The unknown words (words that the students do not know how to spell) have your child "chop up" and write them.
It may seem odd writing this way with your child. But we want to build their confidence as a writer and this is how it's done! So please do not make your child spell adult words correctly.

MATH
We are still working on our Measurement unit this week. We will be discussing weight more, along with comparing the capacity of different objects, and using objects that students are familiar with (i.e. snap cubes, paper clips, index cards) to measure other objects (pencil, eraser, carpet, table). We will use the following two stories to help students understand weight and capacity more. We watch them at the beginning of our math lessons to start the discussion on the topics we cover. Feel free to watch them with your children and use the math vocabulary we use in class: heavier, lighter, same/equal, holds more, holds less.

SCIENCE
We will focus on Physical Changes in Matter in Science this week. We will be learning about recognizing that the shape of materials such as paper and clay can be changed by cutting, tearing, crumpling, smashing, or rolling. We will also learn how to match altered objects to their original state. This video is a short lesson on our second objective for this week that you can show your child to review what we'll learn later this week.

Baby Shower Photos

The Baby Shower was the cutest!! Thank you Ms. Bellot and Mrs. Cone for setting everything up! The food and drinks were great and I loved the decorations. :)
Now for those of you that were curious what we did~ We played a few simple games, opened the most adorable presents (that all the students clapped for) and then we ate cupcakes and sugar cookies. :)
I thank everyone so much for spoiling me and Francesca!! (Thank you Mrs. Lovett, Mrs. Orr and Mrs. Gemmill for coming in to celebrate with us. Also, thank you Baby Remi Orr for making an appearance too! I'm hoping Remi becomes friends with Francesca and in five years... she could be a student in my class!!) Anyway, I can't wait for Francesca to get here... My due date is December 11. But I'm hoping she comes much sooner!! I want to get back to sleeping on my stomach Guys! haha

Also, for those of you that have not heard Mrs. Conner will be taking my Maternity leave while I'm gone and teaching with Ms, Bellot. Mrs. Conner has been in our room a lot this year and we know everything will continue on as normal. :)

Thank you Sophie, Cayson, Kenza, Logan, Noah, Nicholas, Layla Amaya, Amelia and Olivia for all the gifts!! I can't wait to show Francesca.
