This is our last week of the First Quarter. Who would have thought that Kindergarten would move so quick and be SO MUCH FUN?! :) Well be ready, we have a ton in store this school year!!!
NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY~ OCTOBER 18
Because of the 4-day week, we will not have a Fun Friday Activity. However we have a full week of Resources: Art, P.E., Media & Music!! Also, we wanted to remind that there will be school next week on Oct. 21. It was a Weather Day that the School District changed into a Regular School Day.
Also, we were informed that prizes for the Schoolstore.net Fundraiser will not be delivered until the Fundraiser ends. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Our Parent Liaison- Keri Welton at ext.2014.
SKILLS
We began Sight Word Testing and the students are doing great! They are reading color words, number words and sight words like CHAMPS!! Continue to practice sight words at home and watch their memory grow.
We have new Sight Words this week: three, four, it & go. You'll notice the slideshow below.
Also work on beginning sounds of words. The students are beginning to produce sounds easily and now we are working on figuring out beginning sounds of words/ pictures. Some students are even getting ready sounding out words on their own. So check out the Jack Hartmann video with Stretchy the Word Snake.
READING
We are continuing to work on sequencing the events of a story with pictures and an oral retelling. This weeks story is a little bit more involved than the past few we've read... however I think the story will excite them so much that they won't even realize it has more events! Our story is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This is a great story to work on that forces them to use Goldilocks name and really recount the events.
Make sure to listen to the story with your child so that they are ready for our Comprehension Test at the end of the week.
WRITING
We will now begin focusing on the fundamentals of sentence writing:
*putting an uppercase letter at the beginning of the sentence. *using two fingers to make spaces in between words. *writing sight words on our word wall correctly. *chopping up sounds in unknown words with our pretend "cutting boards" (one arm) and our pretend "knife" (the hand of our other arm). *putting punctuation at the end. (For the next few weeks we will focus on using a period. However if the students grasp the period quickly, we will also introduce the exclamation and question mark.)
MATH
In math this week, we will be finishing up our Numbers to 10 Unit. Our next unit will be on SHAPES! Please continue practicing counting to 100 with your child, using our video that we'll be using in class throughout the week. Below is also an introduction to 3D shapes video that focuses on the four shapes we'll be learning about this week: cube, cylinder, sphere, and cone.
