Week of September 9

We have a busy week planned!! We are trying to complete testing for Progress Reports. As of right now Progress Reports are scheduled to go home next week. However with the lost days of school, the date may be extended.
We have Resources this week: Art and P.E. Then half of the class will be getting a big surprise and going to Spanish Class!! (We have decided which half will be going, but rest assured those students that don't go this time. They will go next time.) Also, Edward is signed up for Fun Friday Snacks on Friday and it's JEANS DAY!!! We are hoping for 100% participation... and maybe even another visit from Mr. Gilley.

SKILLS
We are continuing to practice recognizing letters and correlating them to their sounds. A few students are in the letter club, but overall we need to practice with every single letter! We are starting Sight Word Money )just a fancy way we discuss our sight words in Room 41!) You'll notice the slideshow below. Use it to practice with your child. Our predictable chart we will be working on is: I like to_______. Every day a few students will be called to tell what they like to do outside during Recess.
Finally... name writing!! Please be practicing with your child on writing their first name with the beginning letter as uppercase and the rest lowercase. We practice daily on this, however some students try writing all the letters uppercase.

READING
Our story this week is The Recess Queen. (If you've never listened to this book- please check it out! It's a great story.) We are working on the same concepts as we did for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom~ predictions, retell, connections, opinions and comprehension.
On Friday we will be taking a Comprehension Check to make sure the students are able to recall information from the story. Our check is a simple happy/ sad face. They color happy if the event occurred and they color the sad face if it did not occur.

WRITING
Our people are coming along nicely! Make sure to practice drawing them at home with your child and discuss the parts as you draw.
Here are pictures that I have drawn with the students to help.

MATH
We are busy counting objects and sorting them!! You'll notice your child bringing home lots of papers this week. Please go over it with your child. Some students need to complete the papers and others need to practice counting and matching the amount to the color.
Here are some counting songs to practice at home with your child.

SCIENCE
When the time works into our schedule, we will discuss tools that Scientists use.
