Wow! Can you believe we are getting ready to end February?? Time is flying by! We are getting ready to test again and we can't wait to see how much the students have improved! :)
Anyway, we have Resource Monday (Media), Tuesday (P.E.) and Thursday (Art). Then we are ending the week with Slippers being our Fun Friday Activity!! As always, students are not permitted to wear slippers all day... so please send them ti school in their back packs. (Students are not permitted to play on the playground in their slippers, so please make sure they have other shoes.) Xavier will be bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the class. :)
MATH
This week we are wrapping up our unit on teen numbers and counting on from 10. Students will continue to practice counting on from 10 to make a teen number. We will be doing different activities to practice recognizing our teen numbers, ordering them, and showing them in different ways. Our Unit Assessment is this Thursday, please make sure your child is practicing these skills at home. To prepare for our next unit we are also continuing to practice putting two numbers to make a larger number.
WRITING
I'm changing it up a little this week and we are discussing what we would do if we were President of Chimney Lakes Elementary. (I figured it would be easier than pretending to be President of the USA. haha) Although we are discussing and writing answers to the above mentioned question... we are still following along with the quarterly writing expectation.
Here is a fun Youtube video to remind the students on what Good Writers Do!
SAXON/READING SKILLS
So I somehow misplaced a few Saxon folders and now we are splitting the week between two letters: Jj and Xx. Make sure to practice the sounds for both!! We receive a lot of strange produced sounds... and we want more students for the Sound Club! :)
Our Sight Words for the week are which, each, use & many. Have your child practice reading the words by reviewing the slideshow daily. Students are expected to read 60 Sight Words this quarter.
Our blend for this week is ST- and the word family is -ack. Check out the slideshow and video below for practice. :)
READING
We are getting a little bit of Social Studies in by discussing our 16th President Abraham Lincoln. We will discuss slavery and how he helped to abolish it. We will also discuss problems he faced in his life and how he dealt with the problems. Finally we will end our week discussing the book and taking a Comprehension Test.
So that your child is prepared to answer questions about the test, check out a recording of the book Abe Lincoln's Hat by Martha Brenner.
