Week of Jan. 14

***Sorry that this did not get posted last week... we had trouble with Blogger not accepting our password and then we were blocked by the school district's fire wall. It was just all over bad!***

We've got a busy week in K!! We have Resources everyday, except Thursday when we go on our Field Trip to Webb Wesconnet Library. :)
Also, on Friday we have Boots Day (we noticed we have PE too, so if your child participates in Boots Day~ we're okay with them having tennis shoes in their backpack to change into.) Haleigh will be bringing Fun Friday Snacks for the class on Friday. :)

MATH
We are working on measurement and focused on getting the students to use the math vocabulary!! They are doing good at comparing items and discussing length with longer, shorter, taller, etc.
We are looking forward to discussing weight with them! :)

WRITING
The students are doing good looking at a picture and coming up with sentences to write... However make sure to be practicing writing/ reading Sight Words. We are noticing a lot of trouble using sounds and sight words to write.

SAXON
Our Focus letter is Zz. The students always enjoy this letter, but make sure to practice so that they don't say "ZUHHH" when making the Z sound.
We have sight words, a blend and a word family!! 3rd Quarter is always so much and the students have a lot of expectations in Reading!!

READING

Our story this week is Snowmen at Night. We are discussing the vocabulary fright, anxious, calm and thrill. The students are super excited to work in their Reading Journals. We will be making entries about visualizing the characters "doing tricks" on the ice, making connections with the book about making something that didn't last forever and discussing the events of the story IN THE ORDER THAT THEY HAPPEN. Retelling stories is tricky for Kindergarten students, please practice this skill!
**One of the Reading Expectations this quarter is to read a sight word reader (this is a dum dum challenge book that will be sent home after testing) and then retell the story to a teacher with the events in the order that they happen.
