Winter Break is just around the corner... before the students leave for break however, we have got to finish all of our Testing. We are almost complete with our i-Ready Testing and we will be on our way for Gradebook Testing in Reading, Math and Writing. You'll notice on our Daily Conduct Sheet that some days Resource time is at 8:55. This means our lessons and testing will be in the afternoon.
We know sometimes emergencies arise and students need to be checked out early, but we want you to know that daily early dismissals are effecting student grades. So please try to keep them to a minimum.
RESOURCES: Mon-MEDIA 8:55-9:40, Tues-P.E.8:55-9:40, Wed-MUSIC 11:25-12:00 and Thur-ART 12:00-12:45. For those that wish to stop by this week and eat lunch with their child. Our Lunch Time is 10:15-10:45 and on Wednesday's Early Release Day it is 9:30-10:00.

SANTA SHOP OPENS UP!! If you would like your child to shop, please fill out their shopping envelope and put their spending money inside of it. This helps the Volunteers shop with your child. We will do our best to send your child the day their money comes to school. However if they are not able to go down to the room and shop, we will write you a note. REMINDER: Shop Hours are daily 9:00-2:00. Except on the Early Release Day, they close early. :)

Friday we are having Christmas T-Shirt Day and/or Holiday Hat. Make sure to check back next weekend and see the cute pictures!! Also, Noah Williams will be bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the class. :)

MATH
Students right now are loving learning all about shapes! Last week we described 3D shapes and compared their properties. This week we will be finishing up our unit with 2D shapes and Positonal Words. Most all students can recognize 2D shapes right now but we also want them to be able describe them... How many sides does it have? How many vertices does it have? Towards the end of the week we will be discussing positional vocabulary. (on top of, above, under, beside, in between, next to, in front of)
Home Learning: Along with the worksheets that will be sent home during the week please work with your child in finding shapes throughout your home and use the vocabulary with them. Also please remember that our 2nd Quarter expectation for counting is 50. Students are still having a difficult time with 29, 39, and 49.

WRITING
The students will be completing a writing test. We wrote a blog post a while back... make sure to check it out and see how we are grading the writing.

SAXON/READING SKILLS
Saxon has us focusing on letter Bb. This is a great letter to work on!! There are a handful of students that confuse b and d. So work on this. :)
Although we have new Sight Words coming this week... we are going to be assessing Sight Words so that we can find out who is going to the SIGHT WORD PICNIC this quarter. :)
Finally, we will be reviewing rhyming, syllables and assessing the students ability to read simple Saxon CVC words (ex. pig, log, bed, cat, etc.)

READING
Our wonderful story this week is The Gingerbread Man by Jim Aylesworth. This story is sure to catch the students attention!! The vocabulary in this story is fairly simple: fancy, pretending, stared and "shaped." We will discuss the character and whether the Gingerbread Man was smarter or the fox was smarter. :) haha We can't wait to hear the students responses!!
We will complete a few journal activities and on Friday we will complete a Comprehension Test. So make sure to watch the storybook at home!!
